Cannabis is a drug that is obtained from processing the leaves of the cannabis plant. It is popular around the world and also known as ‘marijuana’. This drug is often consumed as a psychoactive kind because of its tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) content that triggers the mind. While medically recommended for consumption for some people, others personally take it for fun by smoking or eating it directly, or in meals.

It is consumed for recreational purposes because of its ability to cause intoxication. Cannabis also causes about drowsiness, hallucination, memory loss and extremely high appetite for food. Other side effects of cannabis consumption may include changed behaviour, anxiety, panic and restlessness. High and frequent use of the cannabis drug sometimes result in addiction. There have also been speculations of a spiritual use of the drug and plant in various cultures and traditions across the world.

Cannabis has also been referred to as the most widespread illegally consumed drug in entire world. This is because of its cheapness, availability and easy-to-use nature when compared to other drugs. Although there have been bids and protests in several regions to make it a legal drug, it still has remained illegal in major parts of the world.

In the field of medicine, the use of this drug has caused controversies in leading countries of the world such as the United States. While some experts recommend it for the cure of some ailments, others propose that it is completely unnecessary as there are other alternatives.

In dealing with chronic pain, cannabis has been consumed both on individual terms and also as a prescription by doctors. Most people in chronic situations have opted for it to ease extreme physical pains. This is because when taken in high quantity, it can calm the nerves and numb cells so that people don’t feel anything at all.

To survive surgical pains, patients have in some cases demanded to smoke some cannabis as it helps them easily bear resulting pains. In harsh conditions such as extreme injuries, fractures, dislocations, etc., some victims choose to eat or smoke cannabis to bear pains that remain even long after treatment. This is also employed in minor cases such as when a patient is supposed to bear the pain of injection needles.

Some people consume cannabis to deal with pain when undergoing piercing procedures on very sensitive parts of their body. Likewise, in tattoo shops, cannabis is consumed by most customers and tattoo enthusiasts across the globe. Some smoke an amount of it to alter their mind from the pain caused by the needle of the tattoo machine. This is usually done either when it is a large or highly detailed drawing, or when it is done on sensitive areas of the body.

Psychologically, cannabis has been used in attempts to bear emotional pains that people go through. Some victim who are suffering from heartbreak, depression, low self-esteem, domestic abuse etc., often resort to cannabis to relieve the emotional trauma.

In conclusion, the mind-altering effect of the cannabis drug generally makes it a pain relief.
