Cannabis, Marijuana, weed, hemp, kush, pot, herb, ganja, blow; these are only some names commonly used to refer to Cannabis Sativa. Cannabis is a controversial plant whose name is cultivated differently in people's minds. It is consumed by ingestion, smoking or vaporising and new methods of consumption are continuing to be invented. For the longest time cannabis has been illegal in most countries around the globe. It is safe to say that a large majority of the population that is against the legalization of this plant, so to say, are ignorant of its benefits.

In 2001 Canada was the first state in North America to legalize marijuana, making it the second country in the world to recognize the medicinal benefits of cannabis. This was after the passing of a government bill issued under conditions outlined in Marijuana for Medicinal purposes and Regulations by Health Canada. In November 2017, a second reading was passed that stated that cannabis users should only be arrested and taxed when they sold weed to minors. They were also to receive punishment when they got caught operating auto mobiles high on weed. This therefore meant that they were now not only allowed the medicinal use of marijuana but also for personal and recreational use.

In the last few years the

Tweed is now referred to as Canopy Growth Corporation after the merge with Bedrocan Canada. Bedrocan is a fortune 500 company and international producer and marketer of beer. Not to mention their status expanded as the official supplier of commercial cannabis in Canada because of the exposure they enjoyed due to national and international media coverage. This made Tweed widely recognized in and out of North America.

In the last few years the company has established Tweed farms. These are there greenhouse operations which have geographically diversified Tweed marijuana allowing the company to stay on top of the competition. This is because most commercial enterprises don't really have farms to plant their produce but buy their produce from domestic famers. That being said, there are you eighteen fully authorized licensed producers listed on Health Canada's website.

 is a highly misunderstood drug

Although marijuana is decriminalized in many parts of the world more and more countries are picking up the use of medicinal and recreational marijuana. Supporters of weed believe that it

is a highly misunderstood drug and should be legalized for medicinal and economic benefits. Countries that have legalized this plant enjoy revenue from cannabis sells. It is used by physicians as a pain reliever and by Aids patients to stimulate appetite therefore preventing the wasting away of muscles. In the recent years scientists have discovered THC, the major component of marijuana, as a possible breakthrough in treatment. Chemotherapy patients have also testified that the drug makes the pain from the procedure more bearable.

Cannabis in Canada

Despite these disclaimers, many people still believe that cannabis is harmful to society because it is considered a gateway drug to other hard drugs, like heroin and cocaine. Other people strongly oppose this legalization because chronic users of this plant develop an unhealthy dependency to it. This is a fear because some people claim long-term use shows changes to the brain that is similar to the effects of other drugs. Other people are also opposed to this legalization because they believe the crime rate will increase upon passing of this law. This is however just based on the stereotypes that smoke and generally consume marijuana.

It is fair to say that the future of cannabis in the world is bright and hopefully more people recognize these benefits over the barely demerits. Cannabis will grow the economy of more third world countries and reduce the mortality rate due to infectious diseases. Consumers of this herb especially in the last decade have made sure to inform the internet of the benefits of both medicinal and recreational use and now that more people are enlightened on this we can only hope that it is legalized. This article is one of the many works underway for the legalization of pot, as many writers strive to induce the knowledge of cannabis so that more people are aware that it's just a plant.
