Cannabis in Yatala, Brisbane

Hard drugs do more harm than good to the body system of any person who consumes them. For instance, some drugs damage your lungs while others weaken your liver. It is because of the harmful effects these drugs could have on your body system, especially when an overdose is taken, that many countries have laws to regulate their use. Not only their use, but also their availability on the market as well as who and where they can be grown. Some hard drugs like marijuana are not chemical substances, they are plants that are actually groomed into maturity. A few days ago, a fairly old man was arrested in Yatala, a city in Australia, for unlawful production of harmful drugs.

Basically, on the first of July

Basically, on the first of July 2020, the QLD Police in Yatala uncovered an undercover marijuana plantation at the home of a fifty-nine year old man. The man lived at a shed in the south of Brisbane and operated on this unlawful farming experiment at his shed and a bushland at a nearby property. Police officers at Brisbane who busted his operation seized about three hundred and sixty-nine marijuana plants which are estimated to cost about $920, 000 as its street value. By carrying out this cannabis plantation in his Yatala home this man violated a number of Australian laws which is why he has been charged to court and is expected to show up in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on the 16th of September.

In Australia, to be able to

In Australia, to be able to grow or cultivate cannabis you need to obtain a licence without which you could be arrested for illegal cultivation of illicit drugs. This requirement is authorized by virtue of the current Narcotics Drugs Act that operates in Australia. Although the federal government of Australia had legalized the cultivation of cannabis such as marijuana, you must obtain a license that points out that your plantation is strictly for medicinal purposes before you can proceed. This fifty-nine year old man who was arrested by the police in his Yatala home did not have any such licence in his possession. He was growing the plants at an alarmingly large number and was making an astronomical amount of money from it. It is very likely that he was not even paying his taxes otherwise the Australian government would have discovered his secret operation sooner.

Make no mistake, use of marijuana is legal in Australia, but only if it is prescribed by a doctor or a medical practitioner. So not only was this old man breaking the law by growing cannabis on his private property, he was selling it to people without a doctor's prescription as well. He was practically putting the majority of the population that reside in the city of Yatala at a considerable health risk. There is no part of the Australian law, that is the Narcotics Drugs Act that was recently amended by the Australian parliament in year 2016, that validates the actions of this man. This is why he was charged with one count each of producing dangerous drugs, possessing dangerous drugs, and having items used in connection of a drug offence in his possession.

The hundreds of cannabis plants that were uncovered are now in police custody to prevent further use or abuse of it. It suffices to note that the Australian government is highly committed to keeping the illicit drugs use and rate of deaths resulting from drug abuse at the barest minimum. This is why the Narcotics Drugs Act was enacted by their parliament, in the first place. The arrest of this man will hopefully serve as a deterrent to other criminally minded individuals who have the intention of producing and distributing cannabis unlawfully. Such individuals, if caught, will be arraigned in court and made to face the full extent of the law.

Regarding the despicable man recently captured, it is hoped that he will reveal the identity of others who may be in his line of business. They too will then be brought to justice for their blatant disregard of the law. This is not to discourage those who are in this business but who obtained the required documents that legalize it. Those who intend to begin growing or distributing cannabis may do so after getting their license.
