Cannabis Legalization and Cultivation

Cannabis is a generic term used to denote the various psychoactive preparations of the plant cannabis sativa. It is termed as marijuana in Mexican language referring to cannabis leaves or other crude plant material. The non-pollinated female plants are called hashish and the hashish oil is concentrate of cannabinoids obtained by solvent extraction of crude plant material or its resin.

This plant is widely cultivated, trafficked and abused illicit drug. The drug ranks top for all illicit drugs trafficked. The geographical spread of cannabis seizures covers the largest in all countries. In this decade, cannabis abuse has grown more rapidly than cocaine and opiate abuse the most rapid growth of abuse since 1960 was witnessed in developed countries in North America, Western Europe and Australia. Cannabis has become more closely linked to youth culture and the age of initiation is usually lower than for other drugs. This weed markets show that low prices coincide with high levels of abuse and high prices leads to low abuse levels. Although the number of cannabis consumers is greater than opiate and cocaine consumers, the lower prices of this weed mean that in economic term, the cannabis market is smaller than of the other two drugs.

Chronic health effects of this drug

The acute effects of this plant have been recognized for the past years and recent studies have confirmed and extended earlier findings. This drug impairs cognitive developments including associative processes and free recall of previously learnt items can be hard to recall. It was also found to impair psychomotor performance in wide variety of tasks such as divided attention, motor coordination and also increased lack of clear judgment. A study confirmed that, a person who abused cannabis would highly cause accidents as compared to person never used the drug.

Chronic health effects of this drug were confirmed to increase in different researches conducted by different researchers in America. Prolonged use may lead to great impairment which may not recover with cessation of its usage and can affect daily life activities to the affected individual. Heavy consumption is associated with high prevalence of symptoms of chronic bronchitis and high incidence of acute bronchitis than in the non-smoking individuals.

Cannabis Legalization and Cultivation

There has been large progress in the legalization of medical cannabis in countries around the globe including those who have made the weed legal for adult recreational use. Rules and regulations surrounding the weed vary from country to country according to state laws put in place. Cannabis cultivation and consumption was burnt since 1973 in Afghanistan but the said illegal production is rampant in the same country. The drug remains ingrained in the local culture among the people living that country. In Azerbaijan sativa of all sorts are burnt but illegal cultivation continues to take place. Its medicinal value is used in the country for long period of time despite its illegalization in the state.

In Taiwan, its usage goes with huge risks where by possession of any amount of the weed can to 3 years imprisonment. However, planting or trafficking holds a punishment of at least 7 years behind bars or even death sentence.
