Cannabis can be more harmful when eaten than when smoked. This follows an incident where a family of six was admitted after consuming ganja sabzi in an assumption that it was some type of vegetables. Soon after cooking and eating the weed, all members of the family began complaining of dizziness, and they started fainting. After they were rushed to the hospital, it was realized that they had consumed cannabis rather than the intended vegetable.

Researches have shown that eaten marijuana is more harmful than smoked one. This is because absorption and metabolism of this weed in the body takes a longer time as compared to smoked one. Once smoked, peak level of blood happens between a time period of 3 and 10 minutes while when eaten can take up to three hours. However, once it reaches the blood vessels it goes so quickly and has its impacts on the brain. For that reason, most marijuana users prefer to wait for minutes than hours for it to begin working in the body.

There is a need therefore, to ensure rigorous testing measures of these edible products in the standardization of the THC amounts. Products with amounts exceeding 100 milligrams should be cleared from the shelves in the attempt of reducing the risk of consuming of high amounts.
