History of Weed

Clara Gibson
Humankind has used weed herb for several years, perhaps millions of years. In reality, weed has been prohibited for not more than 2% of the time since it was first used. Although the exact roots of marijuana are not entirely known, this article has gathered recent information about it. Possibly, complete legitimization would help uncover more myths about weed.

The evolution of weed

The earliest species of marijuana was discovered in China and it was around twenty million years old. From China, it spread to the European continent about seven million years ago and to India over 30,000 years ago. The advancement of sea ice formations in cooler periods forced weed to disperse south to reach warmer climates. The glaciers liquefied in warmer periods and marijuana could move northwards. Over the past several decades, humankind has shaped the development and growth of weed, although it is the environment that has had the greatest influence.

The origin of weed in Man

Hardly anyone knows the length of time weed has been used by man, but it may be the earliest crop to have been grown. Nevertheless, the latest findings have challenged what many people thought they knew. Historically, weed is known to be among the favorite plants along the Mongolian plains in Central Asia. Some researchers believe that the earliest marijuana plant was grown in the Hindu Kush zone of Pakistan over 3 million years ago.

An archaeological study of a Neolithic site in Taiwan found ceramics that had hemp string markings. The marijuana string discovered in former Czech dates back to the Taiwan site by more than 15,000 years. Sadly, between the two periods, nothing has been discovered, but because the strings were found in Central Europe, it indicates that marijuana was first grown outside Asia. However, if, as researchers now claim that the herb dispersed thousands of years ago, maybe the earliest species of man (Homo sapiens) might have also used it.

The earliest period that marijuana was

Many clothing products made from weed and silk have also been found by archaeologists. These artifacts were dated to 5,000 BC and were discovered at a Paleolithic site in China. Throughout this age, the economy of the Yang Shao Yellow River region depended on marijuana. Researchers also discovered that the people of Yang Shao wore clothes made from hemp and also made marijuana ceramics. They also crushed marijuana seeds to make oils, which was used as a cooking medium or salad pudding.

Weed as medicine

The earliest period that marijuana was used for medical purposes is about 5,000 years ago. However, there is an aspect of skepticism regarding the first recorded evidence of the medical use of weed. The dilemma is that researchers have not found proof that Emperor Shen Nung who is believed to have recorded the first medicinal use of weed truly existed. Besides, the ancient Chinese never recorded dates, hence it is hard to tell what was recorded and when. Nevertheless, weed started to disperse from China in 3000 BC then it reached the Middle East around 1300 BC and finally appeared in Europe.

History of Weed

The myth about the early use of weed

Advocates of weed argue that several cultures have used marijuana with no negative effects before the modern period of persecution. Note that there is not a single instance where someone has died from a marijuana overdose. However, anti-marijuana activists have resorted to myths without facts to back up their claims that weed is harmful.

The "Nepenthe Hoax," which stemmed from Homeric poetry estimated to be between the ninth and sixth century BC, is a theory that was broadly published in the 1930s. This story says that Helen of Troy discovered the power of Hemp from the spouse of the Egyptian ruler. Therefore, to relieve anger and pain; she consumed hemp to forget about bad feelings. The term "Nepenthe" was used to characterize the medicine, which in this case was marijuana.

Humankind has grown and used weed for more than 13,000 years, though the latest research indicates that the earliest time it was used is more than 40,000 years ago. It followed a somewhat smooth course through an evolution since almost every culture acknowledged its importance as a recreational and medical plant. Unfortunately, weed has recently become a demon after centuries of harmless use. Whereas some nations and some US states have recognized the need to legalize weed for recreational and medical use, the rest are playing catch up. It seems like "profits" are the biggest obstacle and it is going to remain unlawful in many countries until influential interests figure out how to profit from marijuana legalization.
