How often to water Cannabis seedlings

Isai Allison
Cannabis seedlings are quite delicate, and therefore require an exquisite method to water them. Unlike the normal seedlings, overwaterly soils is not a perfect environment for them to thrive. Overwatering these seedlings is disastrous, it causes their root system to be displaced which affects the entire growth process. In order to grow healthy cannabis seedlings with sturdy stalks and lots of hair, the following watering tips will greatly help.

The first thing to consider before watering our plants is how much water our plant needs. For cannabis seedlings, you will water them based on when they require it, which means when the soil is dry. How do you know if the soil is dry?

Most people water their seedlings once

Well, there are three ways to determine the moistness of the soil. First, if the soil looks dry, very basic and requires absolutely no skill. The second way is to poke your finger into the soil to ascertain the moisture state. Last method is mainly used after you water your plants to ascertain the soil is well moistened, it is weighing the pots. You will notice that there is a weight difference between a moist pot and one that is not moist.

Most people water their seedlings once a day, some may water them twice. However, this is deduced by various factors such as the type of soil, humidity, airflow and temperature. These factors will be discussed later, lets venture into how to water you plants. With the aforementioned factors in mind, you will use a spray bottle to sprinkle water on your soil. Water for 30-40 seconds, or until you see a water runoff beneath your pots. This guarantees that the water is just enough for the seedling and has no effect on root development and overall growth. You can then use the method of weighing to determine if they are well watered.

The type of soil highly affects

When watering the seedlings, it is advised that you direct the water around the plant and not directly to the seedling. This will encourage the roots to reach out for water which helps to develop a stronger root system and hence a healthy. Lightly water the seedlings until the soil is damp, just enough and avoid overwatering. This is the ideal way to train the roots, you can water the center less frequently like once in a week when it seems dry.

The type of soil highly affects how much you water your plant. If you have quality well drained soil such as white soil, you can water your plants once a day. It is advised to do it in the morning so that the seedlings will easily intake nutrients. However, for less porous soils such as clay requires less frequent watering, maybe once in a couple of days. These soils can be used for the seedling although it is advised to use soil with adequate drainage capacity such as loam soil.

How often to water Cannabis seedlings

You are however not restricted to watering them once, just check the moisture in the soil. It may be affected by other factors such as humidity, unlike high humidity, low humidity in the environment requires frequent watering.

Moreover, high temperature allows higher evaporation rates and the soil is likely to drain quickly. It is therefore important to water your seedlings more often if you are in areas characterized by high temperature. Another factor to determine how to water your seedlings is the airflow of the space they are growing in. A place with good airflow allows the soil to drain quickly, the environment is also less humid. This will require frequent watering compared to where the airflow is insufficient. One with poor airflow will keep the soils moist for long and more humid growing environment.

While one person may be growing their seedling indoors, the other may be growing his outdoors. This is a major determinant on how often to water your seedlings. Obviously, the ones outside will require constant checking on the soil moisture and more watering. Those growing indoors will require infrequent checking on the moisture and less watering. This is due to factors such as low humidity and higher temperatures.

Whether you are growing your seedlings in balmy or cool temperatures, inside or outside, in humid or less humid environment, all you need to do is to ensure your soil is moist. This is the key to your seedlings thriving to strong plants with a fortified root system which is what you want, right?
