Medical uses of Cannabis

Isai Allison
After years of being perceived as an illicit drug, cannabis is now being reassessed on a medical, legal, and cultural basis. Given the manner in which marijuana derivatives influence the body, it is amazing how it is capable of curing many health disorders. Most marijuana studies are based on substandard cell culture and mice tests. However, the few clinical trials done on humans are truly remarkable. The next part of this article offers a list of six medical applications of marijuana.

1. Anti-Aging treatment

Evolving clinical trials show that though constant use of cannabis may cause harmful health effects in kids and teenagers, it is valuable to people as they grow older. Preclinical studies show that marijuana in young animals is linked to weakening of bones. On the other hand, cannabis has a positive impact on the bones of older species-it strengthens them. Likewise, experimental research done by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem showed that a small-dose of marijuana treatment would slow down brain aging.

2. Appetite stimulation

The marijuana weed has built a good profile as a stimulant for appetite. But, in the medical context the condition popularly called "munchies" might be valuable. People with severe illnesses and emotional trauma find it hard to maintain an appetite. This can affect their dietary status negatively as well as expose them to diseases. Although some marijuana ingredients may lower appetite, two of its components have the reverse effect. The two ingredients are cannabidiol (CBN), and THC and its elements.

3. Asthma treatment

Most people would find it amazing that marijuana can treat asthma. Previous studies have found that when marijuana is inhaled, it acts as a bronchial dilator that reduces irritation in narrow airways. A 2014 study confirmed these findings implying that cannabis components can prevent the narrowing of airways in the lungs.

4. Cancer treatment

Medical uses of Cannabis

Another promising medical use for cannabis is in the cancer treatment. There are many trials on the possibility of using marijuana to treat cancer. However, the absence of clinical testing on humans means that its potential as an anti-tumor has not been properly researched. Yet, a few previous experiments have turned out positive with some marijuana elements.

5. Insomnia treatment

Sleep related problems are the main reasons why most people show interest in medical marijuana. Although additional studies are required to ascertain how marijuana affects sleep, previous data has shown that cannabis helps people to fall asleep faster. Further research needs to examine whether marijuana induces a more relaxing sleep.

6. Pain treatment

The pain relieving effects (analgesic effects) of cannabis are very important for severe pain that is hard to manage. Studies have shown that cannabis is a preferable alternative for patients with medicinal marijuana approvals. Most of these patients prefer cannabis to prescribed pain relievers that have more serious side effects. Therefore, health practitioners and decision-makers need to adopt cannabis as an alternative painkiller.

Cannabis is arguably among the most controversial subjects from a health and legal standpoint. To reach a consensus on the use of cannabis in recreational and medical settings, further research is required to determine its possible benefits. If you want to know the possible benefits of cannabis to your health, it is critical to first contact your physician.
