Natural growth of Cannabis

Isai Allison
Cannabis is a native plant used to make a mood-altering drug that slows down the function of the central nervous system. It’s mostly used to get intoxicated in social events. Similarly, cannabis is used for medical reasons to treat symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite and pain relief. When taken in large quantities, it tends to have delusional effects. Cannabis is also known as weed, marijuana, ganja, herb, or a joint.

Like any other plant, cannabis requires fertile soil, water, warmth, and light to grow. Growing cannabis naturally basically means using workable and affordable methods to produce high yields. The cannabis plant takes 4 to 8 months to be ready for harvest which is highly dependent on its vegetative cycle. Cannabis can either grow indoors or outdoors depending on the preference and conditions present.

Moreover, planting cannabis close to each

Preferably, Cannabis should be grown outdoors because the soil contains enough nutrients, the sun provides natural light and the presence of rain. All these conditions provide an environment for the whole life cycle of cannabis to occur naturally. Planting outdoors can be difficult to practice due to climatic changes. Especially in winter and summer where disruptions such as the supply of light, water, and warmth for plant growth occur. There are various practices they can adapt to make outdoors growth sustainable such as the use of mulches to inhibit evaporation and keep moisture in the soil.

Moreover, planting cannabis close to each other helps in decreasing the evaporation rate and make it easy to water the cannabis plant. Also, adapting drip irrigation is convenient so that even in the dry season, plants still get enough water for continuous growth. On the other hand, growing cannabis indoors require more resources such as LED lights, ventilation system, and hydroponics to make it sustainable. The life cycle of cannabis is divided into four stages namely; germination, growth, vegetative and flowering.

Natural growth of Cannabis

Germination is the first stage of life for the cannabis seed and it takes 5 to 10 days. At this stage, the plant is inactive waiting for moisture, light, and warmth to bring it to life. A high-quality seed of cannabis should be dry, hard and light to dark brown. When a seed germinates, the roots grow downwards and stems upwards with two rounded cotyledons. The growth stage follows for 2 to 3 weeks with the plant developing more leaves. At this stage, it’s important not to drench the seedlings due to its small roots that don’t need much water to blossom.

The vegetative stage follows which is a crucial time when the cannabis plant grows at a high rate. This is the right time to train the plant and it usually takes 3 to 16 weeks. Spacing and watering should be right and at this stage soil rich in nutrients is very vital. The last phase is the flowering stage which can occur for 8 to 12 weeks. Resinous buds develop at this stage and it becomes possible to differentiate the male plant from the female and separate them to avoid pollination. Once the buds have fully matured, cannabis can now be harvested.

The natural growth of cannabis is sustainable and produces high-quality plants because all the nutrients they need are readily available in the environment. However, due to its illegality in many countries, people prefer to plant cannabis indoors leading to wastage of resources.
