Proper cannabis plants spacing

Elijah Farley
For maximum production of marijuana, this is quite an important topic to discuss. Of course, proper spacing of marijuana will lead to high yields as a result of well circulated light which plants need for photosynthesis. Generally, just like all plants, marijuana has a natural way of ensuring light openly reaches each leaf through the arrangement of leaves known as leaf mosaic.

It is good to note that the marijuana plants spacing depend on several factors. Spacing is the differing ways reflectors, hoods, and various types of hydroponics bulbs affects the amount of square feet that have enough light intensity for your plants.

Some hoods have a narrow angle, are too deep, or they have crappy reflective materials, they instead of distributing light, eat it. They may leave you with about 1 to 2 square metres of usable well-lit space per 1000-watt bulb. Others are carefully cultivated; probably they have better reflective materials or their angles are more effective at delivering more light to a wider area. Using the right reflector; and a quality bulb, you could get about 2 square metres of well-lit spacing for a 1000-watt bulb. Double-ended bulbs add a new dimension, and get very hot, you have to put them higher above your plants.

Using high-quality double-ended bulbs, your light intensity is about 45% higher than normal HID bulbs at canopy level. You could get slightly more than 2 square metres of usable, well-lit space using the best 1000-watt double-ended bulbs.

Crowding creates leaf, branch and bud

Marijuana plant spacing should allow delivery of enough direct light through the canopy and onto each plant. It should also prevent plants from touching each other, because the leaves and buds where they’re touching are so humid, and are unable to transpire properly. The aim is to ensure you have as many plants as possible under each light, but not to have them touching each other.

Crowded marijuana plant spacing, especially with challenges of ventilation, humidity and temperature control, and air movement, promotes growth of gray mold pests and other problems.

Using net supports is popular, but growers using sea of green and SCROG sometimes experience difficulties using trellis nets without over-crowding marijuana. Also individual plants might be forced by nets or general crowding to have their branches compressed together so that even if plants aren’t touching other plants, they’re still being harmed.

Crowding creates leaf, branch and bud favourable conditions for pests, diseases, and inferior growth. Also, you can carefully “weave” individual stalks through the netting to separate the buds and leaves, providing the necessary spacing for light penetration and air movement.

Proper cannabis plants spacing

Here are some general guidelines for marijuana plant spacing:

Observe proper distancing of the plants, so they don’t touch each other at all. Measure about 0.3 metres oscillating aeration fan per 1000-watt light.

Ensure there is a cool breeze from top to bottom of the plants because dead air harms plants. Routinely check your plants every time and prune any branches touching each other on the plants.

Use a PAR light meter and measure photo-synthetically active radiation and light intensity realise the effective area profile of your lighting focus. Make sure that light can penetrate from top to bottom of each side of your plant’s perimeter. If you see shade and other darkened areas, those parts of your plant are not accessing light, which is an essential nutrient. Finally, the duty is to make sure there is proper spacing such that light gets to every leaf from top to bottom.
