The Origin of Cannabis

Elijah Farley
Research has described the origin of cannabis to be as early as man’s existence. With mostly half-baked evidences, the origin of cannabis has never been specific but varying. The most popular claim of the roots of the plant is that of its existence in ancient Asia.

Early researchers have proposed that the first traces of the cannabis plant dates back to have existed in prehistoric mountains of Central Asia. Without concrete proofs, scientists through studies and experiments have claimed that the oldest of the plant originated from Asian mountains in about 10,000 B.C.

Much of the origin of cannabis has been found in ancient Chinese history. The Chinese speculation is mostly on a utility basis of the plant. In areas like medicine and healing, researchers have dug out proofs of its use in Asian regions.

One of the most widespread origins

A number of certain reports imply of the marijuana plant being farmed as a cash crop thousands of years ago in the eastern part of Asia. There have been some proven similarities when compared to the facts in the history of Central Asia. Nonetheless, there is really a lack or shortage in evidences to prove its wide range of use in Asian history.

More recently, subtle proofs of use of cannabis came up claiming its existence in the Pamir mountain regions. There was said to have been a discovery of certain matter in the Jirzankal Cemetery. This found matter was passed through scientific processes and later said to be remains of the cannabis plant. Scholars and researchers postulated that ancient Asians used the plant particularly for burial purposes.

One of the most widespread origins of cannabis is that highlighted in ancient sacred Vedas texts written in about 1,500 BC. Some of the spiritual texts are believed to have included sentences containing a word that translates to “cannabis”.

Another area where it has been

In the Christian faith, historians say the marijuana plant was mentioned in the bible. There have been rumor that this isn’t in the new age bibles because it was removed in 300 B.C.

The religion, Hinduism, also have records that cannabis was used to by certain gods and devotees to enhance visions and communications. Although most archaeologists believe this to be just a myth, others believe it to be the first case where the plant was used to affect the mind.

Another area where it has been speculated to have originated from is Pakistan. It is said to have been the first growth of the cannabis plant centuries ago. Some explorers say it moved to the European regions from this part of Asia before spreading to other parts of the world. On the contrary, other scientists say the first of the cannabis indica was discovered in Europe.

The Origin of Cannabis

Some studies point at Africa to be the origin of the first cannabis plants. Scientists have claimed to have discovered the first evidence of marijuana on an ancient Egyptian mummy. Journals have also been published claiming that early farmers in Ethiopia discovered the first naturally growing cannabis. They have said to have moved this hemp plant from its origin in Africa across the world in the process of migration.

There have also been myths of the first occurring cannabis dating back to 2000 B.C in Greece. Historians say the ancient Greek worshippers discovered the first naturally occurring ones and cultivated them afterwards. It is claimed to have been used as a medium of communication between the gods and humans.

In more recent years, marijuana users have argued the origin of the cannabis plant to be Jamaica. Because of the deep and wide use in the region, many have come to believe it originated from the island. Others say it is only artificially cultivated in the region. Some enthusiasts have believed it to be spiritually used in the area and hence why it’s its origin. Despite the popularity of this rumor, researchers have always come out to debunk it. They insist there is no proof at all that it originated from the Jamaican islands or the Caribbean region at all.

In conclusion, the most believed claim is that the first cannabis plants existed only in central Asia. A majority of most archaeological work has traced it to this region and suggested that it only spread to other regions because of it many uses.
