The Origin Of Cannabis

Cannabis or otherwise known as marijuana is hot topic and its usage dates at least five thousand years ago. It's medical and health benefits have prompted many states to legalize its use. For centuries, cannabis was cultivated and used for medical and recreational purposes.

Its native oreis said to be Asia and was used for hundreds of years before spreading to the rest of the world. Archeological evidence shows cannabis was used in the 1st millennium in China, India, Africa and Assyria.

Research documents also claim marijuana was an important ingredient in the ointments used by the Jewish people during their journey from Egypt. In 2,900 BC emperor Fu-Hsi of China declared cannabis as a vital medical ingredient. The Chinese people have since found more than one hundred uses of marijuana.

Archeological manuscripts also show ancient Egyptians used cannabis oil to treat skin inflammation and glaucoma. Cannabis was solely planted for its ropes since it is a high fabric plant. Its psychoactive properties were discovered years later and it rapidly became a food and recreation hashish.

In the middle of the 20th

In one thousand BC, the Indians mixed milk, traditional herbs and cannabis creating a medicinal mixture. The drink created was a strong aesthetic and was also used to treat dysentery, fever and encourage sleep.

Roman medical professionals recorded in the 70 AD that cannabis could suppress sexual desire and heal ear infections. They also used the cannabis roots to treat arthritis, gout and muscle pain. The Arabs are known to have used cannabis between the years 750 to 950 AD to treat gonorrhea and migraines.

Total ban and restriction of cannabis began in the late 15th century among the Arab and Muslim countries. The colonial governments followed suit in the 18th century and it was illegal to be found in possession or using it.

In the middle of the 20th century, almost all countries came together and created a sweeping restriction on cannabis use. However, in the 21st century, some countries began refraining from the laws and have given cannabis a new approach.

The Origin Of Cannabis

Holland was the first country to allow the use of marijuana for treatment or medication only. Several United States also legalized marijuana products and can now be used by anyone of the right age. In South Africa, cannabis is legal but you have to use it while in your home only.

Cannabis was introduced to African by Indian and Hindu travelers in around 1325 CE and was later sneaked to South Africa by migrating Bantus. The Spaniad people are greatly associated with cannabis in the west part of the continent.

In the 60s,the number of cannabis smokers increased rapidly among the youths which prompted rapid measures. Governments across the world had to classify cannabis as a narcotic drug and it became illicit. Pressure was put on cannabis growing and trafficking countries such as Afghanistan and Belize in the 1980s.

It is difficult to pinpoint the actual date and place where marijuana originated from. The history present is based on archeological evidence which are not always 100% correct. Nonetheless, people are beginning to see the positive side of cannabis and this has seen several countries permit the sale and use of marijuana.
