The use of marijuana has long-term effects such as addiction, brain damage, lung problems, diminished thinking, social withdrawal, and relationship problems. Most individuals who abuse marijuana, consistently end up in addiction. This means, they can’t stay without taking it daily and as a result, they become physically hooked on marijuana. Long-term use of marijuana impairs brain function by making it hard to focus and remember what one learns which may also result to lower IQ.

Marijuana smoke worsens and irritates the lungs and its regular use results in breathing problems and persistent coughs. This puts the user at risk of low immunity hence making them acquire frequent lung infections. Also, marijuana affects how individuals perceive things and can cause violent behavior which destroys personal relationships with friends and family.

Last but not least, long- term abuse of marijuana may lead to anti-social behaviours such as criminal tendencies and social withdrawal. Therefore, it’s important to have a controlled arrangement on how individuals should use marijuana whether it’s for medicinal or leisure purposes. The long- term effects outweigh the short- term benefits of using marijuana.
